PM directs for people friendly budget

Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has directed government’s economic team that the forthcoming Budget for the financial year 2011-12 should be people friendly to give relief to common man.
He asked that appropriate measures be incorporated in the Budget to ensure economic growth thus leading to reduction in inflation, increase in investment and creation of jobs.
The Prime Minister was chairing a special pre-Budget meeting of his economic team at the PM’s House here on Thursday.
While elaborating his vision and priorities of his government, the Prime Minister stressed upon adoption of austerity measures with focused attention on development efforts.
Earlier, the Minister for Finance briefed the meeting on the salient features of the Budget 2011-12. The Secretary Finance, after giving a review of the last year’s Budget, explained the economic strategy adopted for the upcoming Budget 2011-12. The Chairman, FBR deliberated upon the available options to expand the tax base and achieve the revenue targets.
The meeting was attended by Leader of the House in Senate Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, Minister for Finance Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Minister for Law & Justice Senator Moula Bakhsh Chandio, Minister of
State for Finance Mrs Hina Rabbani Khar, Minister for Religious Affairs and Chief Whip Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah, Chairman Planning Commission Dr. Nadeem ul Haq, Governor State Bank of Pakistan Mr. Shahid Hafeez Kardar, Secretaries Finance, EAD, Planning & Development, Cabinet, Chairman FBR and other senior officials.
