Like other parts of the country, journalists of Peshawar on Wednesday staged a protest demonstration and condemned murder of their colleague Syed Salim Shehzad. On the call of Khyber Union of Journalists, journalists from all over Peshawar assembled in Press Club from where they proceeded in a procession. On main Sher Shah Suri Road, protesters were addressed by Khyber Union of Journalists President Arshad Aziz Malik, Senior Vice President Ali Hazrat Bacha, Shamim Shahid and Peshawar Press Club President Saif Ul Islam Saifi. Speakers expressed severe resentment over Salim Shehzad’s assassination and demanded the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take an early sue motive in this matter.
They said violence and aggression against media personnel would never have occurred if the government had publicised the Judicial Commission’s report on Hayat Ullah’s kidnapping and assassination.
Protesting journalists chanted slogans against groups and factions responsible for Syed Salim Shehzad’s assassination. Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa Information and Culture Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain visited Peshawar Press Club where he condoled the sad demise of Syed Salim Shehzad and extended sympathies with journalists. Mian Iftikhar Hussain expressed concern over the assassination of Syed Salim Shehzad.
