Incompetence abounds

Incompetence is the only word which applies very aptly to all the ailments of our country, may it be poor governance or terrorists attacks on our vital installations. We have poor governance because the country does not have competent rulers.

The rulers are there through bogus elections and an incompetent election commission. It has been established that about 47 million registered voters are bogus.

Some members got elected by producing fake degrees in 2008 general elections which shows their character. Every day one finds a new scandal in a government department of which suo moto notice is being taken by the Chief Justice.

It is not just the civilian setup that is plagued with incompetence. The war against terrorism is purely based on intelligence operations as the enemy is not visible or defined. If our agencies had a mole in each terrorist outfit duly cultivated, many fatal incidents could have been avoided.

At least heads of sensitive organisations could plan the security of their vital assets. We lost two extremely expensive Orion aircrafts besides 10 precious lives in the PNS Mehran attack. It was a criminal security lapse on which our Naval Chief should have gone home.

Our intelligence and counter intelligence operations have failed on many counts. On every failure the heads must have rolled. But so far no one has resigned or has been dismissed from service and there is no move for greater transparency and accountability. All the people implicated are enjoying the perks and privileges of their respective positions.

Both the civilian and military establishments will keep on enjoying all this pomp and show till 2013. No one bothers about the pathetic conditions of common man who has been pushed to the wall. Let the public suffer and starve to death as long as the rulers are having best of the time of their life.
