Four men allegedly belonging to outlawed Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) have been remanded to the Crime Investigation Department (CID) until June 4 (Saturday). The CID officials had brought the four accused men to the City Court before Judicial Magistrate-West Rasool Bux Mirjat. The four men were arrested on Tuesday from the Mauripur police precincts because, according to the CID, these men are LeJ members who were involved in sectarian killings across the city. The CID claimed that accused Munawar Alam alias Bilal, Muhammad Shahid, Khawaja Talat Ali and Muhammad Ali were arrested after a brief encounter near Lucky Pahari on the Hub River Road.
CID Anti-Extremist Cell’s SP Muhammad Aslam Khan told the court that the arrested “militants” are associated with the LeJ.“We also seized two AK-47 assault rifles, a 222 rifle, a TT pistol and a car that was snatched a few months ago. Besides targeted killings, the militants have confessed to committing several robberies as well,” SP Khan added. He said that the initial investigation had revealed that the group of the accused men was involved in four sectarian murders in the recent months, two burglaries and a case of kidnapping for ransom, he added.
