The independent commission constituted by the prime minister to probe into the Abbottabad incident has been empowered to carry out its fact finding mission freely with the aim to make public the security lapses, mistakes and realities behind Osama bin Laden’s presence in Pakistan, Information Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan said on Wednesday. She said the commission had been given the authority to investigate anyone attached with the incident to get a true picture of the incident. Warning political forecasters, she said they must avoid giving their verdicts on the Abbottabad incident, as the government had constituted a commission to probe into the matter.
“Let the commission do its duty freely and the quarters doing politics on the Abbottabad incident must wait for the commission’s report,” she said. She also asked TV anchors not to give their assessments over the sensitive matter that could obstruct the fact-finding task of the commission. Firdous said no speculations should be spread until the finalisation of the report by the commission. The minister said the government gave much respect to the judiciary, which was why the prime minister appointed a serving Supreme Court judge as the commission’s head.
