At least three high-profile bankers, including the officials of the central bank, in the metropolis disappeared mysteriously on Monday night. The three missing persons are the senior staff members of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and the United Bank Limited (UBL).
The SBP staffers include Director Pakistan Remittance Initiative (PRI) Najm-us-Saqib and Manager Marketing Nadeem Bhurgari while the third missing person is Asif Shehzad, who is affiliated with the UBL in the capacity of senior vice-president. Saqib was responsible for the managing the affairs of the recently-established PRI which, according to the government officials, has played a leading role in the record increase in the remittances sent by the overseas Pakistanis with the amount crossing the US$9 billion mark.
When contacted, a spokesman of the central bank confirmed the report. “Yes, Mr Najm-us-Saqib and Bhurgari are missing since last night (Monday night),” Syed Wasimuddin told Pakistan Today. The spokesman said the State Bank was ‘in touch’ with the families and relevant law enforcement agencies to get the missing staffers recovered safely. According to police, the three bankers were kidnapped on Monday night at around 9:40pm while they were on their way back to home from the Country Club Road.
“They had dinner at the club and were kidnapped while driving back home at the Country Club Road,” ASI Muhammad Ashraf of Bin Qasim police Station told Pakistan Today. The law enforcer said the police had found vehicle of the three from the vicinity.
