‘BISP employs multi-pronged strategy to combat poverty’

The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Chairperson Farzana Raja said the BISP has implemented a multi-pronged strategy based on best international practices to curb poverty and to uplift the living standard of downtrodden segments of society. She said technical/vocational training was one of the crucial aspects of BISP as it aimed at creation of income generation opportunities for the poor. BISP chairperson said this while talking to Qazi Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) Chief Executive Officer Azmat Isa, who had called on her at the BISP Secretariat. BISP Secretary Muhammad Sher Khan was also present on the occasion.
Farzana Raja lauded efforts of PPAF and said the organisation’s work in the last one decade was commendable. Keeping in view the credibility and efficiency of PPAF, she said, BISP has opted to work in collaboration with PPAF on training and counseling of Waseela-e-Haq beneficiary families. Besides, she said, PPAF was collaborating in the disbursement of interest free assistance to these beneficiary families and monitoring successful progress of their businesses. Farzana Raja said the BISP had also planned to launch demand driven vocational training programme in partnership with PPAF.
