Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh has said that connecting six decades old economic problems with the budget would not be appropriate and the nation should not fasten undue expectations from the upcoming budget.

He was addressing a pre-budget seminar at Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry here on Tuesday. He said the extra ordinary increase in government machinery has put burden in national economy.

The finance minister said the budget would be realistic and balanced in which some 0.7 million tax evaders would be brought into tax net without leaving the load on common man. The funding for education, health and social welfare sector would be enhanced in the coming budget, he added.

He said the devastation of floods and extensive swell up in petroleum prices in international market, deteriorated the Pakistan’s economy and added that last year provinces got Rs 335 billion extra which would be enhanced in next fiscal year.

He was of the view that due to an increase in exports and remittances, the overall economy of the country is getting better.
