KU in worst condition

Karachi University is one of the oldest and the best universities of Pakistan. Students from all over Pakistan come here to acquire quality education to make their career and serve the nation in respective fields of life. It has a well-educated and dedicated faculty that trains the students to play effective roles in society.

But the repair and maintenance of this mother institution is in the worst condition. Furniture and class rooms look like an old store. It needs repair with minor costs. Walls are in dilapidated situation. Chairs and desks are not clean at all. Washrooms are never cleaned.

It will not be out of place to mention here that evening classes are run on self-finance basis. Students pay a reasonable fee in each semester to share the cost with the university. Today’s students are leader of tomorrow. If we care for them now, they will care of the country in future. The amount used on education is not the useless expenses; it is an investment for tomorrow.

I further propose that if the government is facing financial problem, then a maintenance fund can be established and a fee of Rs 50 per month per student can be imposed. There are 25,000 students in the university. A sum of Rs 1,250,000 will be collected each month.

It will be a reasonable amount to bear these expenses. We have conducted survey and 90% students agreed to contribute for this cause. Some of the students even showed interest to donate extra amount. But with the condition that contract should be awarded to outside contractor. It is further proposed that once a month cleaning day should be celebrated. Students will clean the gardens, walls and furniture. This will develop sense of ownership among students and they will not spread garbage during the month also.
