Provincial Doctors Association (PDA) Monday called off its strike after two weeks of protest on Monday. The doctors had been demanding perks equal to those available to their colleagues in Punjab province.
The PDA decision came after the government assured the doctors that their demands would be met. Health Department Secretary Dr Noo-ul-Haq and PDA representatives Monday held a joint news conference.
Dr Noor said, “We have decided to accept the five point agenda presented by the PDA and I assure that the doctors would be get a package equal to doctors in Punjab. The lingering work boycott by the doctors had crippled the functioning of public hospitals not only in Peshawar but also in Abbottabad, Malakand division and Kohat. Provincial Doctors Association President of Dr Shah Sawar said that after successful dialogue with health authorities the association was ready to end strike. He, however, warned the government against any delay in the implementation of its pledge made to doctors.
