Gujranwala citizens are forced to drink polluted water from 12 out of 46 water filtration plants in the city for months now and are unaware of the poisonous intake due to their own unawareness and criminal negligence of the administration.
Reportedly, the city government has installed 46 water treatment and filtration plants worth tens of millions of rupees and out of these 46 water treatment and filtration plants 18 were installed in TMA Aroop, 14 each in TMAs of Nandipur and Qila Dedar Singh and one in TMA Khiali Shahpur. The one and only water treatment and filtration plant of Khiali Shahpur was never maintained by its administration and its taps and other equipment had already been stolen and the machinery is rusting due to not changing its filters.
At least three plants in Nandipur; Government Girls College Satellite Town, Zero Point and village Bhatti Bhangu are not working since long and the has rarely bothered to mend these costly plants to save the masses from water bound diseases. As many as eight plants in Qila Dedar Singh Town comprising most of the urban area could not function since their installation only due to myopic approach of the administration which did not bother to change filters on time.
Although, all water treatment and filtration plants of TMA Aroop are functioning but all of them are giving polluted water due to their filthy filters which have not been changed since long.
Recently, Gujranwala Division Commissioner Saeed Wahla took serious notice of the situation and directed all the four TMAs to make all of the water treatment and filtration plants functional before June 4.
GDA WITHDRAWS HOUSING SCHEME PLAN: Gujranwala Development Authority Director General Waheed Akhter Insari has withdrawn his stance of establishing housing scheme in the city by saying that no official land lies in the city hence it is impossible for the GDA to develop any housing scheme. Formal approval from the GDA’s governing body as well as from the Housing secretary will also be obtained to avoid un-necessary hindrances, he intended in case of succeeding any such joint venture.
