The Sindh Assembly is likely to convene on June 3 in what should be billed as a pre-budget session but one that will condole with President Asif Ali Zardari over the death of his father, Hakim Ali Zardari.
Sources in the Law Department told Pakistan Today that another session of the Sindh Assembly is likely to be convened on June 9 with the aim of presenting the budget for fiscal year 2011-12. The “pre-budget” session is only required to pass a condolence resolution for Hakim Zardari, sources said.
“A summary has been sent to Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad to convene a session before the budget; this session will likely be convened on June 3,” sources said. Meanwhile, Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Khuhro said on Monday that strict security measures will be taken in and around the Sindh Assembly building during the budget session. Security will be beefed up not only at the two main gates but also along the boundary wall of the Assembly complex and the roads leading up to the building.
Khuhro argued that the Sindh Assembly is an extremely sacred institution for all democrats since even the government is answerable for its performance to the provincial legislators. He added that all advanced countries, despite being equipped with the latest technology, are making serious efforts to enhance their security.
