Fire exchange during a raid to arrest a wanted criminal lead to the death of Regi Police Station House officer (SHO) Farhad Ali on Sunday morning, police said.
Sources said the police was informed that Noor Mohammad, a wanted criminal, was present inside his house in Regi area at the suburb of Peshawar. Reacting to the information, a team was constituted under the supervision of Station House officer (SHO) Farhad Ali to raid the house of Noor Muhammad. However, the criminal’s son Jan Muhammad opened fire, resulting in serious injuries to SHO Farhad Ali who later died on his way to the hospital.
The intense fire exchange also caused death of Noor Muhammad’s son Jan Muhammad. A fresh contingent of police was deployed after the exchanged firing as search operation was launched to net out other criminals. However, no one was arrested. The Regi area at Peshawar’s north is a lawless tribal area of Mulagori, where criminals take refuge and have historically been involved in armed attacks on police forces.
