The Punjab government, on Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s direction, has been distributing plot allotment certificates among thousands of homeless families in various districts of Punjab. In Faisalabad, as many as 7,283 five-marla plot allotment certificates were distributed among the shelter-less families living in rural areas of the district under the Jinnah Abadies scheme.
The district coordination officer (DCO) gave a detailed breakdown of the plots given in Sadar comprising rural areas, Chak Jhumra, Tandlianwala, Samundri and Jarranwala. The DCO said that the homeless families were selected through draws and the entire process of the allotment had been completed transparently under the prescribed policy. He said that the assistant commissioners concerned have been coordinating with departments to hand over the allotment certificates.
According to details, PML-N members of Punjab Assembly Raza Nasarullah Ghumman and Sardar Dildar Ahmed Cheema distributed 1,950 plot allotment certificates in Tehsil Sadar in a ceremony. MNA Khalida Mansoor handed over 1949 plot allotment certificates to the homeless in Tehsil Chak Jhumra. In another ceremony held in Jarranwala, MPA Rai Ajaz Khjarral was the chief guest as he handed over 1582 plot certificates. MPA Shahid Khalil Noor gave away 1191 plot certificates to the homeless families in Tehsil Tandlianwala and 611 homeless families in Tehsil Samundri.
FAISALABAD AIRPORT’S SECURITY: Following a terrorist attack on the Mehran Naval base on Karachi, Faislabad Airport authorities have augmented its security to cope with any terrorist attack in the future.
The new measures include setting up more sniper points, enhanced street lighting around the airport premises and the approach roads and an increased degree of round-the clock-monitoring and a proactive mechanism of mobile patrolling. A special meeting called by the airport manager was attended by all stakeholders. The meeting decided to ban the construction of all kinds of towers or high-rise buildings in the vicinity of the airport. The Civil Aviation Authority will give NOCs for any new such constructions.
LOUSY INVESTIGATION: The inspector general of police has taken serious notice of the clumsy handling of criminal cases by incompetent investigation officers that result in acquittal of offenders in courts. Backing out of eyewitnesses is another reason for the lack of conviction. IGP, in his letter to CPO Faisalabad, has warned that the officers who are unable to prove their case in court or the eyewitnesses who back out of their statements will be prosecuted. He has advised the CPO to appoint professional and efficient police officers in the investigation sections to ensure that criminals were convicted by courts in cases such as murder, kidnapping for ransom, robbery and rape.
It is a fact that a poor conviction rate leads the criminals to walk free in the streets again and the crimes become a profitable enterprise for them. It is estimated that more than 500 hundred criminals in murder, rape, kidnapping for ransom and robbery cases walk out of prisons without punishment due to poor follow-ups of cases against them. Absence of identification parade and non-submission of scientific evidence against the culprits are other important factors that give the benefit of the doubt to criminals.
Thieves posing as FESCO employees take away transformer: The residents of Chak No. 120 RB were left to suffer in the scorching heat of summer as a group of thieves posing as FESCO employees removed an electricity transformer of the village under the pretext of maintenance. Millat Town police have registered a case. The residents have appealed to the FESCO authorities to replace the transformer as soon as possible. There are many stereo-type incidents of transformer thefts in the region. A transformer approximately costs Rs. 400,000/- but the thieves take out copper wires from the unit and sell it in the black market at a price as low as Rs. 50,000.
MAN KILLS WIFE FOR HONOUR: In a tragic case of honour killing, a mother of five, was killed by her husband in his bid to save family honour. Khalida Parveen, wife of Mohammad Ramzan, allegedly had an affair with another man and reportedly eloped with him last week. Yesterday evening, she returned home. On seeing her, an infuriated Ramzan took his axe and hit her several times killing her instantly. Thikriwala police arrested Ramzan along with the murder weapon.
