A full court reference headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will be held at Supreme Court tomorrow (Tuesday) on the eve of retirement of Justice Raja Fayyaz Ahmed. The reference will be attended by all judges of the Supreme Court, representatives of Pakistan Bar Council, Supreme Court Bar Association, senior advocates and presidents of various bars.
Justice Raja Fayyaz Ahmed will be retiring on May 31, 2011 after attaining the age of superannuation (65-years). He was born in Quetta on June 1, 1946. He was enrolled as an advocate in 1968 with the West Pakistan Bar Council. He was elevated as judge of the Balochistan High Court in January 1997 and as chief justice of the same High Court on April 25, 2000. He was elevated as judge of the Supreme Court on September 14, 2005.
It may be noted here that the retirement of Justice Raja Fayyaz Ahmed will start a virtual depletion of the apex court as four more judges are to retire this year, confronting the court with a slow process of filling the vacancies under the 18th Amendment.
