SC moved for recovery of Musharraf-era loans

A petition was filed in the Supreme Court’s Lahore registry on Saturday for the recovery of Rs 518 billion loans allegedly sanctioned to various politicians during former president Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf term of office. Barrister Zafarullah Khan, on behalf of Punjab Watan Party President Hashim Shaukat Khan, filed the petition and declared the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Finance, three former governors of State Bank; Dr Ishrat Hussain, Dr Shamshad Akhtar and Saleem Raza, Bank of Punjab, Zarai Taraqiati Bank, National Bank of Pakistan, National Accountability Bureau and Federal Investigation Agency as respondents.The petitioner alleged that Rs 256 billion loans were illegally sanctioned by three former governors of State Bank to strengthen Musharraf’s rule. He prayed recover these loans from the governors with interest.
