Asif Ali Zardari has summoned separate sessions of the Senate and National Assembly (NA) on June 3. Along with the announcement of budget, which will continue for 2 weeks, the assembly will also have to discuss the non-implementation on the parliamentary resolution on national security under a requisition submitted by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) parliamentarians on Saturday under Article 54(3) of the constitution. A requisition,by law, has to addressed within 14 days of its submission.
Izhar Imrohvi, a senior Pakistan People’s Party leader told Pakistan Today that the government has no other option but to summon the requisitioned session before the budget session as the 14-day deadline would end on June 10, in the middle of the budget session. However, a senior official in the national assembly secretariat said that former chairman Senate, Wasim Sajjad had given a ruling under a similar situation and summoned the requisitioned session after the expiry of 14-day deadline due to budget session.
“The national assembly has already followed the precedent and it is likely that speaker national assembly would summon the requisitioned session after the budget session is prorogued,” he added. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s 93 members signed the requisition and called a session to discuss the issue of national security.
