Pakistan files case against Kishanganga Dam at WB

Pakistan has registered a case against India for constructing Kishanganga Dam in the World Bank’s arbitration court, reported a private TV channel. Pakistan raised two major objections on the project including that India cannot divert the route of the River Jhelum. It has also argued the water level cannot be reduced below the dead-storage-point of the dam. Pakistan’s representative has submitted documents related to the case to the court’s chairman in The Hague. It is expected the court, consisting seven judges, can start hearing of the case from next month. Pakistan is of the opinion that the project is a violation of the Indus Water Treaty which regulates the use of the five eastern rivers passing through the territories of the two neighbours.
