N chief Nawaz Sharif on Saturday warned the government that if the formation of an independent investigating commission on the Abbottabad operation and drone attacks was delayed, his party and the PPP would be on a warpath. He blasted Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani for trashing parliament’s joint resolution on forming the commission, saying the commission’s formation to answer a series of questions had become a big question itself. Not uttering a single word against the US, the PML-N chief kept harping on the same string that the Abbottabad operation had trampled self-respect and integrity of country which made Pakistan a laughingstock in the world.
Nawaz said if the government did not implement parliament’s resolution, the PML-N would conduct an independent inquiry into the Abbottabad operation and the PNS Mehran attack. “Those responsible for both incidents will be brought to justice and exemplary punishments meted out to them,” he said. “The PML-N has submitted a request to summon parliament’s session to distinguish fact from fiction regarding the process of formation of the independent commission,” Nawaz said, warning that if Gilani further delayed the process, the PML-N launch a campaign against the government.
He said the people had rejected such a democratic government who called the Abbottabad operation a great victory and attributed it to those who inflicted irreparable damages to the honour and integrity of Pakistan. He said if the Charter of Democracy had been implemented, corruption including Amin Fahim’s complicity in the NICL scam would not have happened.
He said the nation should learn to live without foreign aid, adding that democracy was the best shape of accountability but the system was being blocked in Pakistan. Referring to former president Pervez Musharraf’s tenure, the PML-N chief said he arrested the judges when he failed to extract a forced decision from them. Nawaz said, “I was going to resolve the Kashmir issue in 1999 but the Kargil misadventure spoiled the process and later my government was toppled.” The PML-N chief said Pakistan now stood alone, adding that after the nuclear tests conducted in his regime Pakistan had to face embargos but the nation faced all constraints with courage. “We launched mega development works including the Motorway, yellow cab scheme and construction of airports in Lahore and Karachi without foreign grants.”
He said Pakistan was now on the verge of economic collapse and industry was taking its last breath. However, Nawaz vowed that the PML-N would once again hoist the flag of integrity. Separately, addressing a gathering outside Circuit House, Nawaz said those responsible for the Abbottabad and PNS Mehran incidents must be found and punished. He said the leadership of PLM-N had formed an economic reform agenda to consolidate national economy and steer the country out of the crisis. Earlier, he laid the foundation stone of a housing scheme around 10 kilometres away from the city and also inaugurated Nawaz Sharif Boys College on Faisalabad Road.
