Ghurki condemns criticism of Army

Federal minister and Pakistan People’s Party;s (PPP) Lahore Chapter President Samina Khalid Ghurki, condemning the criticism of Pakistan Army, said that some political actors were vilifying the army to please their ‘foreign masters’. She was addressing a Quran Khwani held on Saturday for President Asif Ali Zardari’s father Hakim Ali Zardari. She said that army was the strongest national asset and the nation should back the army.
“The government would not compromise on national sovereignty and remedial measures would be adopted to make up for the mistakes of the past,” Ghurki said. She said that negotiations with the US were underway on an equality basis and for the first time in the country’s history, Pakistani rulers, instead of adopting an apologetic style, were facing the US bravely and their demands were being accepted.
Ghurki said that it was owing to the PPP-led government’s bold stance that the US government was ready to say with trust that Pakistan’s nuclear assets were safe. She said that fresh terrorist incidents were occurring after the death of Osama, the most wanted terrorists of the world; however, the government would control the wave of terrorism.
Replying to a question, she said power load shedding would be reduced to a minimum soon. Paying tribute to the late Hakim Ali Zardari, she said his services to the promotion of democracy would always be remembered. The PPP Lahore chapter leaders and workers attended the ceremony in large numbers. Among these PPP Lahore leaders, General Secretary Akbar Khan, Secretary Information Tahir Khaliq, Hafiz Ikhlaq, Nargis Khan, Aana Ashar Nisar and Zahid Zulfiqar were prominent.
