In view of growing attack threats from Al-Qaeda and Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the authorities on Saturday decided to enhance security in Islamabad. The authorities also decided that a maximum surveillance of entry and exit points of the capital would be ensured. The capital’s security situation was discussed in a meeting chaired by Interior Minister Rehman Malik. Interior secretary, Islamabad IGP, Security DIG, Operations DIG, Security SSP and intelligence agencies officials attended the meeting. The intelligence agencies were asked to remain vigilant and share information with law enforcing agencies concerned. All SHOs were directed to know about new arrivals and any other suspicious activity in their respective areas.
Earlier, the interior minister, along with IGP and other officials, had an aerial view of Islamabad. They also surveyed slums in the suburbs of capital. Another meeting, co-chaired by Interior Minister Rehman Malik and Federal Law Minister Maula Baksh Chandio at Ministry of Interior, reviewed CDA and ICT bye-laws and anti-encroachment campaign. CDA chairman and ICT chief commissioner were directed to carry out a detailed survey regarding expansion of Katch Abadis, illegal localities of Afghan refugees and other illegal immigrants. They were asked to complete the required survey within one week.
