The Punjab government does not intend to impose new taxes on private schools in the upcoming budget as part of its efforts to generate additional revenue, sources told Pakistan Today on Saturday.
Speculations on bringing private schools into the tax net have been making rounds, as the budget comes near. But a senior Punjab Finance Department official dispelled the impression saying that the move will have repercussions for people at large. He said that there was a suggestion to bring private schools into the tax net but private schools would always pass on the burden to parents by increasing fees. “The situation will put burden on parents, as school owners will not pay the tax from their profits,” the official said.
