Conduct unbecoming

Being a Pakistani, three news items appearing on 27 May have made me hang my head in shame although it has become a routine affair.

1. A lady lecturer was detained for the whole night in a lock up with the connivance of military police and the concerned SHO and without any registration of an FIR. Since she indulged in a minor traffic argument with a serving army Major, who instead of showing respect to the lady, preferred to indulge in high-handedness.

Will the corps commander of Rawalpindi take notice of this conduct unbecoming of army officers?

2. The prime minister has unilaterally increased the housing allowance of all employees of Aiwan-e-Sadar and prime minister secretariat.

Are they his personal employees and paid out from his personal pocket? How could he increase this allowance when the budget for 2011-12 is still to be tabled in the assembly?

3. Education and health sectors are going to get even lesser share in the budget of 2011-12. Have we surpassed literacy rate over 90 percent and the population is healthy, wealthy and fine?

It seems that conduct unbecoming has become the second nature of our rulers.
