Up to 35 people are feared dead after the bus they were travelling in plunged into a river in Kashmir on Friday, police said.
The accident took place in the mountain village of Changan in the Neelum valley, some 130 kilometres (80 miles) northeast of Muzaffarabad.
“There is no trace of the bus wreckage or of any body after the bus fell from a high mountain road into the gushing waters of Neelum river,” local police station chief Mohammad Yaqoob Mughal told AFP by telephone.
The conductor of the bus managed to save himself by jumping from the vehicle as it fell and he has told police that there were up to 35 passengers in the bus, Mughal said.
Police and rescuers were trying to find the missing bus and its passengers, he said, adding that “hopes to find anyone alive were diminishing.”
