The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Sindh has urged the provincial government to ensure early and transparent appointment of doctors for the 1,800 posts lying vacant in public sector hospitals.
In a statement issued on Friday, PMA Karachi President, Dr Samrina Hashmi said that around 1,500 seats have fallen vacant in grade-17 after the promotion of doctors to BPS-18 a few months ago.
“On physical verification by the provincial Health Department, another 300 vacancies are available as the doctors employed for these seats have either left the country or have quit due personal reasons,” she said.
“The government should take necessary and quick actions and fill these vacancies through the Sindh Public Service Commission,” she added.
She regretted that while many young doctors are unemployed, there are hundreds of basic health units in dire need of human resource.
