KEMU to hold anti-smoking awareness walk

The King Edward Medical University (KEMU) Surgery Department in association with the Surgical Oncology Society of Pakistan, IFMSA, World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Chest Foundation will hold an awareness walk from the KEMU to the General Post Office (GPO) on occasion of the World No Smoking Day on May 31.
The walk will be followed by a public education seminar on the World No Smoking Day. Cancer is the second most common killer in Pakistan and only injuries kill more people than cancer. Four out of every ten cancers could be prevented by following certain guidelines, avoiding risky behaviour and getting specific vaccinations.
Every third cancer in Pakistan is caused by use of tobacco in one form or the other. There is an urgent need for our nation to be made aware of these issues and provide guidelines and promote healthy lifestyle behaviours.
