Hearing a petition against the appointment of Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) chairman, the Supreme Court on Thursday reissued notices to the respondents to submit their reply by June 1. A three-member Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Muhammad Sair Ali and Justice Ghulam Rabbani heard the petition filed by Muhammad Yasin, Executive Director Ogra, praying the court to declare the appointment of Ogra chairman as illegal. Notices were issued to Federation of Pakistan through Secretary Establishment Division, secretary Cabinet Division and senior joint secretary/additional secretary Cabinet Division and to the Ogra chairman. The petitioner pleaded that the Ogra chairman Tauqir Sadiq was involved in malpractices, favouritism, discrimination, nepotism and corruption. He maintained that during his appointment as Ogra chairman, not a single criterion was followed whereas his LLM degree was also in question. The bench adjourned the case till June 1.
