Institutions suffering from gangrene and AIDS: Altaf

Likening the country’s institutions to a human body and their defence as the body’s immune system, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on Thursday said the country’s institutions are suffering from gangrene and acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) and ‘when one has gangrene, it is advisable to save the rest of the body.’
Addressing the MQM’s Rabita Committee meeting in London, Altaf said that three days ago, four, eight or 12 terrorists had challenged the country’s defensive system – just like the body’s immune system – for 16 hours in PNS Mehran Base, where 1,100 soldiers were present for the security and safety of the naval base. “When 4, 8, 12 [bacteria] enter into the body and 1,100 [cells] are not able to counter them, it means the autoimmunity system has collapsed,” he said, adding that the institutions’ immune system has collapsed, which means that not only AIDS but also gangrene has affected the body.
“When the system cannot stop 12, how can this system defend the country against foreign intrusion,” he questioned.
In AIDS, the body’s immune system, which is the body’s security system against bacteria, viruses and other infective organisms, becomes paralysed and ineffective against intruders from outside that can no longer be fought. “Unfortunately, Pakistan is suffering from a disease known as gangrene,” he said.
The common cause of either wet or dry gangrene is the loss of an effective local blood supply to a tissue. Loss of blood supply means the tissues are deprived of oxygen, resulting in the death of cells in the affected tissue. Infections, trauma and diseases that affect the blood vessels (usually arteries) are the most common causes of tissue/blood supply loss. Gangrene is a potentially life-threatening condition, which arises when a considerable mass of body tissue dies (necrosis). As there is no other treatment, one has to cut off the gangrene-affected part of the body.
Altaf said that if one has his finger, leg, hand or any other part of the body afflicted with gangrene and thinks that it can be cured, the entire body will get affected with gangrene. “Our institutions say that those who are affected are our part and have been misguided but can be convinced to return are not aware of the fact that there is no treatment for gangrene,” said the MQM chief, adding that one can only save the institutions by cutting off the gangrene-affected parts and save the rest of the body.
“If you amputate one leg, you can still walk with a limp and will remain alive, but if not [amputate], then you will not even be able to walk and also will not survive,” said Altaf. “If you want to save the institutions, then drastic and ruthless actions are needed and one has to take the bitter pill. For example, if a gangrene-affected body part touches a piece of cloth, it has to be burnt and cannot and must not be washed and worn again. Similarly, in case of other such diseases like chicken pox, it is also advisable to burn the piece of cloth that has come into contact. “It is your duty to decide whether you want to cut off the gangrene-affected part and save the rest of the body or keep the afflicted part and destroy the whole body. This is not my decision – it is yours.
“As AIDS and gangrene spread, we have to cut off the leg or any other affected part of the body. Take the bitter pill for AIDS – strong medication and powerful action – just like in Iran. “Don’t spare when in doubt even if 60 percent has to be cut off that will ensure the safety of the remaining 40 percent as this will be the neat and clean part. But if not, then the 40 percent will also get gangrene.
“We have to decide either to save the remaining 40 percent or lose the whole system,” Altaf asserted.
