A 108-strong contingent of Pakistani scouts will head to Sweden for the 22nd World Scouts Jamboree, being organised from July 27 to August 7 at an island near Malmo, Pakistan Boy Scouts Association (SBSA) Sindh Coordinator Akhtar Meer told APP on Thursday.
The last World Boy Scouts Jamboree was held in 2007 in London, United Kingdom in an event organised to mark centennial celebrations of the scouts movement. The contingent will comprise of 54 boy scouts from the 14 to 17 years bracket, as well as 54 others who are aged more than 18. The latter are termed international staff team (ISTs) members.
“These ISTs have been approved by the World Boys Scouts body to assist in organising the jamborees,” Meer said. The contingent will be led by PBSA National Secretary Ali Yamin Qureishi, with Syed Iqbal Shah serving as his deputy. Meer said that all members of the delegation, barring one, will themselves bear the cost of travelling and other expenses.
“The only exception is Osama Hafeez, a bright, self-employed boy, who joined the boy scouts under the World Boy Scouts Asia-Pacific Project,” he said.
