The Interior Ministry has reviewed the names of fugitives included in the most wanted list forwarded by India and the sent it back to the Foreign Ministry. According to Indian media reports, the Pakistani Interior Ministry attached a letter along with the list, saying India should first probe if more people included in the list have been living in Pakistan. The Foreign Ministry will hand over the list to the Indian high commissioner in Islamabad in a couple of days.
Earlier, Indian Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said he did not owe anyone an apology over the faults in 50 Most Wanted list handed over to Pakistan, but regretted the bloopers. The Indian Home Ministry on May 21 directed all states, union territories and investigating agencies to update their list of the most wanted fugitives every three months after the recent spree of gaffes in the list. Indian Home Ministry has already directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to scrutinise, verify and revise the list, a top official said.
The errors came after two similar errors were spotted in the list of 50 most wanted fugitives sent to Pakistan by India. One of the “fugitives” was found residing in a Mumbai locality, and another housed in a Mumbai prison.
