The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) will consider approving 51 large-scale development projects worth Rs 300 billion here on Thursday. An official source said that the meeting would consider approval for mega projects related to infrastructure and energy sectors. The meeting would be presented with the performance and audit reports on such projects currently underway.
The source said that permission of the committee had been sought to appoint independent auditors in order to improve transparency in the performance of the projects. The important projects for which approval was sought included the 7,100 megawatt Bunji Dam to be built on the Indus River, the feasibility study and complete tender documents of which would be considered by the ECNEC.
Approval to build three additional berths at the Gwadar Port, widening of the Karakoram Highway and building a separate route bypassing Diamer Bhasa Dam are also part of the agenda.
