The three-day workshop on ‘Communication and Presentation Skills’ organised by the Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) Quality Enhancement Cell in collaboration with Management Consultancy and Training Services (MCTS) concluded on Wednesday at the university campus. Speaking on the occasion, SSUET Chancellor ZA Nizami said that improved communication skills help in avoiding lengthy discussions and explanations, which only cause confusion among listeners.
“Choose words that make your message as clear as possible,” he added. He said the event was important for both faculty and non-faculty members to excel in their communication skills and to be able to communicate their thoughts and ideas effectively. The SSUET chancellor said that the university believes there should be proper arrangement for career planning as part of its academic activities and pointed out that besides teaching engineering subjects, the Sir Syed is the only university where English, Islamiyat and Pakistan Studies are taught as compulsory subjects.
Earlier, MCTS CEO Niaz Ahmed Siddiqi, a former Sindh Inspector General of Police, explained that the main objective of the workshop was to train the university staff, keeping them abreast with latest trends and applications of presentation and communication skills in the corporate sector. The workshop was attended by 54 participants including 26 from the university faculty and 28 of the non-teaching staff.
