At least eight people were killed while more than 39 others were injured when a powerful blast hit the Crime Investigation Department (CID) police station near Gora Graveyard at the University Road here on Wednesday, police said.
According to details, the explosion occurred when an explosive-laden car rammed into the wall of the CID police station. As a result, eight people were killed while more than 39 were injured. Many police personnel were among the injured. According to the reports, the building of the station turned into complete debris.
The intensity of the explosion was such that windows of the nearby buildings were shattered. Approximately 200 to 250 kilograms of explosive material was used in the explosion. The explosion was heard in the far flung areas from the site and people came out of their homes in fear. Shortly after the incident, security forces cordoned off the area and restricted movement of civilians.
After the incident, the injured were shifted to Khyber Teaching Hospital and heavy machinery was called in to rescue people trapped under rubble. Senior Provincial Minister Bashir Bilour said that the car was carrying 300 kilogram of explosives which hit the police station building. Police started further investigation of the incident.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the suicide attack saying that it was to avenge Osama bin Laden’s death. “We claim responsibility for the attack in Peshawar,” Taliban spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan told AFP by telephone from an undisclosed location. “We will further step up these attacks to avenge Osama bin Laden’s martyrdom,” he said.
Ehsan added: “These attacks will continue until the US drone strikes and ongoing Pakistani military operations are stopped in the tribal regions.”

  1. This has become a routine now, and we , very sadly, have become insensitive to such blasts. Reason being that government tackles such a major issue with so casual behavior. What sort of a nations considers loss of innocent life a routine thing?
