‘Punjab govt to provide facilities to labourers’

The Punjab government will provide state-of-the-art health care facilities to labourers and new social security hospitals will be established and the existing hospitals will be updated, Punjab Labour Minister Ehsanuddin Qureshi said on Tuesday.

He was chairing a meeting of the Punjab Employees Social Security Institution (PESSI) Governing Body’s budget meeting. Ehsan told the meeting that during the next financial year, a new social security hospital will be established at Sheikhupura where modern facilities and medical equipment will be provided. The meeting passed the revised budget 2010-11 and annual budget 2011-12 of the PESSI. Ehsan said that main objective of the labour department was to provide free-of-cost comprehensive healthcare facilities to workers and their families.

He said that the labour department is introducing hospital management information system worth Rs 107 million while the scheme would be introduced at the dispensary level in phases. The minister said that latest treatment facilities to workers and their families are being provided for even chronic and fatal diseases. Separately, Iranian Lahore Consulate Director General and Cultural Atashi Dr Abbas Famori called on Ehsan and discussed matters of mutual interest.
