Pakistan seeks joint commission for peace in Afghanistan

Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir stressing the need for close collaboration between Pakistan and Afghanistan has underscored the need for the early operationalisation of the two-tiered Joint commission for peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan.

According to Foreign office spokesperson, Salman Bashir called on President Hamid Karzai Monday evening and conveyed the greetings and sincere wishes of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani. He stated that Pakistan was only interested in stability and peace in Afghanistan.

The foreign secretary also conveyed an invitation from the prime minister to President Karzai to visit Pakistan at his earliest convenience.
