‘27 new hydel power projects approved’

The federal government has approved 27 hydropower projects to overcome the ongoing power shortage in the country, said Federal Labour, Manpower and Religious Affairs Minister Khurshid Ahmed Shah.
He said this while inaugurating the Navy Park in Rohri near Sukkur on Monday. “During the last three years, 2,800MW of electricity were injected into the system but still there is a shortfall of 7,000MW that needs overcoming,” said Shah. He said that the government is giving full attention to developmental projects across the country.
“A four-lane road is being constructed between Sukkur and Jacobabad with an investment of Rs 14 billion, while a bridge on the Indus River between Ghotki-Kandhkot will be constructed costing Rs 9 billion,” added the federal minister. Shah said the provincial government had only given Rs 100 million for the development of Sukkur, while the federal government with the approval of prime minister had allocated more than one billion rupees for the purpose. “During the current financial year federal government has spent Rs 1.13 billion on developmental projects in Sukkur,” he added.
