Terrorist arrested in Islamabad

Islamabad police have arrested a terrorist and close aide of the group responsible for destroying North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) oil containers, and seized four kilogrammes of explosive material and two hand grenades from him, a police spokesman said on Sunday. Islamabad police received information that a man involved in damaging NATO containers was smuggling explosive material from the tribal areas to Islamabad. It was also expected that he might target some sensitive locations in the city.
On the basis of this information, the spokesman said, a special police team from Sabzi Mandi Police Islamabad including Station House Officer Ghulam Muhammad Baqir, Sub-Inspector Asjad Mehmud and others arrested the suspect from IJ Principal Road. The bomb disposal squad was called immediately to defuse the grenades and the suspect was moved to the police station. He was identified as Ashraf Jonu alias Master Abid, resident of village Mir Muhammad Janu, District Nawab Shah.
It was revealed during initial investigation that he had received training for preparing explosive circuits and setting timed devices from Afghanistan.
