Storm claims 5 lives in Jhang, Pakpattan

people were killed and many injured in storm-related incidents in Jhang and Pakpattan late on Saturday.Three women were killed in lightning during rain and thunderstorm at Jamali Kalan in the Athara Hazari Police Station’s precincts in Jhang. According to police, Farzana Bibi wife of Murtaza, Shamshad Bibi daughter of Muhammad Ali and Shazia Bibi wife of Muhammad Akhter were standing at the door of their house to enjoy rainy weather when lightning killed them on the spot.
Meanwhile, the minaret of a mosque situated at Kumharanwali collapsed during the storm. As a result two girls were injured. And in Pakpattan, Safia Bibi (45), wife of Ghulam Muhammad Dhudi, was killed when a wall caved in while Rehana Bibi (15) of Mohalla Khanpura died after an electricity wire fell on her. About two dozens people received injuries in the windstorm which also damaged standing crops, and uprooted trees and electricity poles.
The number of deaths as a result of severe storms in Punjab on Saturday has now reached 21.
