Lawyers held a nationwide protest and boycotted courts on the call of Pakistan Bar Council, Punjab Bar Council and the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) on Monday against the killing of two lawyers in Karachi last Saturday. Lawyers at the lower and the upper level made thin appearance in the court mostly to obtain adjournments and next date of hearing of the cases, which the courts granted them. LHCBA President Asghir Ali Gill said that the law and order situation in the country was alarming and the government had failed to address the situation.
He said that people were being targeted in Karachi in a bid to create unrest in the country. He said the state functionaries needed to improve their efficiency to check crime in the country as its growing rate was keeping the people on edge. Gill demanded the government to arrest the two lawyers’ killers and give them exemplary punishment under the law. He said the legal fraternity sympathised with the Karachi lawyers, who were suffering the shock of murder of two senior lawyers.
