Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik said Monday that up to six “terrorists” attacked a naval air base in the country’s biggest city of Karachi and at least four were killed during the siege.
“There are believed to have been four to six terrorists. Four are confirmed dead. Two are suspected to have run away. We are still checking. Things will be clear by the evening,” he told reporters.
One of the attackers is believed to have blown himself up and three dead bodies were found, the minister said. He said the group had used two ladders, under the cover of darkness, to climb over the wall into the base late Sunday.
Rehman Malik said that 10 security force personnel had been killed in a “terrorist attack” on a naval air base in Karachi, lowering an earlier toll of 13.
“There were 17 foreigners and I want to make it clear, no one was taken hostage,” he told reporters.
“They were shifted from the base. They included 11 Chinese. All our guests are safe,” he said.
A US embassy spokesman in Islamabad told AFP six American contractors had also been on the base, providing maintenance support for navy aircraft. He said that all Americans had been accounted for.
Rehaman Malik is just a part time Interior minister by ten percent. His ninety percent duty is to Zardari to keep nipple and sweetened 'chuseni' in MQM mouths to quieten them.I think if Zulfikar Mirza is given the ministry of Interior he will give MQM the the 'danda' they deserve to bring peace, order in country they have made hostage to the viles and giles-wicked blackmailings.
