Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shahbaz Sharif visited Bhatta Chowk on Sunday and announced that the project would soon be inaugurated formally. He said the project was initiated to control a heavy traffic load at Bhatta Chowk. He said construction work was completed in record time and praised National Assembly Member Khawaja Saad Rafiq, Provincial Assembly members Yaseen Sohal, Mian Naseer Ahmad, Lahore commissioner Nadeem Hassan Asif, the district coordination officer, National Logistic Cell Sector Incharge Shahid Majeed and his team for maintaining the high standard of construction work. The CM said in accordance with the policy of the Punjab government, maximum plantation would be carried out for the beatification of the project and added that instructions had been issued to the Pakistan Horticulture Authority (PHA) director general in that regard.
Shahbaz said the Aashiyana Housing Scheme was for the poor labourers, widows and families of the people who died in the line of duty. He said it was incomprehensible why some people were criticizing this project for the poor. He said the critics of the project had looted the national resources in the name of development projects instead of doing something for the poor. Earlier, Asif had given a detailed briefing regarding the Bhatta Chowk extension project. Provincial Assembly Member Mian Naseer Ahmad, PHA DG Abdul Jabbar Shaheen and Lahore District Coordination Officer Ahad Cheema were also present.
