A 35-year-old woman drowned while six others went missing in the River Ravi near Bund Road during a family picnic on Friday. The deceased woman was identified as Shazia. According to Rescue 1122 sources, the picnickers were Hurbanspura residents and had come to Bhambe Ghugyan, Amir Road on Friday afternoon to see their relatives.
They said that the family went to the river for a bath around 04:00 pm and drowned while bathing in the river. Rescue workers executed a search operation in the river. A family member in Mayo Hospital said that one of her sisters-in-law had drowned while the remaining people were still missing. She said that the family came to know about the incident around 5:00 pm.
She said Nadia, 22, was brought in Mayo Hospital’s Emergency by Rescue 1122 and was out of danger. She said that Samina, 18, Tayyeba, 17, Hamza and three others were still among the missing persons.
FIRES: Fires erupted in three different areas of the city owing to short-circuiting on Friday and incurred a loss of valuables worth Rs 2.5m. According to the Rescue 1122 officials, a fire broke out in a chemical factory of Fahad Malik near Saggaian Pul. A loss of valuables worth Rs 2m was incurred.
Another fire erupted in the house of Imran Qureshi and gutted valuables worth Rs 50,000, while in another incident, a fire broke out in a floor mill in Daragawala area. No injury was reported in all the reported incidents.
