This is an apropos to Mr Ahmad Hammad’s letter published in Pakistan Today, May 4, titled eJournalism in our Universities. I wholeheartedly commend his pertinent article.
Being a student of mass communication, I absolutely agree with the fact that it is the need of the hour to introduce the subject of eJournalism as computers have taken over the communications industry. Just like English is a compulsory subject for the students of BS (Hons)-Communication Studies throughout 8 semesters, eJournalism deserves the same status.
It would have been even better to mention that along with visionary media educationists we also require enthusiastic and dedicated media students who can reflect their discernment by demanding a course which is in fact a professional necessity for them.
As he has mentioned the media warfare and the dominance of social media on us is increasing day by day. Beyond doubts social networking is an inseparable part of our daily routines. The most recent and startling example of the use of interactive media is the Egyptian uprising. It won’t be wrong to say that the proper use of this alternative form of media can aid in orchestrating a protest as well. If there is going to be a lack of will and devotion while handling this particular course then the Pakistani media will definitely be at a loss. Moreover, we’ll not be able to compete with the international media upon which we are pretty much dependent, already! eJournalism can save the future of media personnels from being the victims of media conglomerates.
