Mass communication can help develop better relations among the countries, especially journalists and columnists can bring people closer through their writings, said provincial Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Friday. He was talking to mass communication students from a private university at his office. The student delegation was led by Professor Abdul Hameed.
Memon said that in the modern era of electronic media, people still read articles and other material with great interest. “If the writings are positive, they lead their readers into the right direction,” he observed. “The new generation is the future of Pakistan because they have to take the reins of the country in the future to come, so they should focus their all energies on acquiring education,” he added.
He said that a dual responsibility lies upon the students of mass communication because when they would be working in the field of media in the coming days, they would guide the nation through their writings and point out social issues. The minister said that journalists and columnists can bridge the gap between the people of the four provinces. They can also project the benefits of democracy and democratic institutions. He said that in the age of electronic media, the importance of the print media cannot be denied.
“The print media is performing an effective role and forming public opinion in the right direction. It is a fact that the writings published in newspapers and magazines later become part of literature,” he concluded.
