After the incident in which a bank driver drove away a cash van carrying Rs 525 million, police authorities have decided to scrutinise the drivers, guards and all cash handlers of the private banks to avoid such incident in future.
In this context, a data base having personal details and verification of the data would be undertaken by the police authorities. As a scrutiny process, a number of drivers, guards and cash handlers might lose their jobs due to their dubious credentials or suspicious activities. On the other hand, the police were still clueless on the whereabouts of the driver who escaped with Rs 525 million.
BEES STING MINOR TO DEATH: A three-year-old boy died due to excessive sting bites after he was attacked by honey bees while playing in his house. As per details, Talha, son of Allah Ditta, a resident of Jabuana Village, was playing in the house when the honey bees attacked him. He was severely bitten by the bees and rushed to a hospital but died due to massive sting bites.
19-YEAR-OLD GIRL COMMITS SUICIDE: A 19-year-old girl committed suicide when her mother refused to reconciliate with her father after a long-running family dispute. Reportedly, the wife of Sultan Sikandar, a resident of Chak No 505 GB, left her husband’s house after a row. Sultan tried to bring her back but she refused. Their daughter Tasleem Akhtar who was upset owing to the stubborn behaviour of her mother locked herself in her room and committee suicide.
WORKSHOP held ON GENDER EQUALITY: A workshop on ‘Gender Sensitisation’ for the students of Mass Communication was held at a local hotel with joint collaboration of the Provincial Gender Education team, Gender Education Policy Support Project (GEPSP), School Education Department, Punjab government and UNICEF.
The workshop was attended by Social Welfare District Officer Ch Sarfraz Ahmad, Gender Support Unit Gender Specialist Muhammad Ehsan, GEPSP Research Officer Hina Israr Butt and Mass Communication students of GC University, Allama Iqbal Open University and other institutions.
Trainers Munazza Hashmi and Seemi Raheel, while elaborating the different aspects of the gender equality, said the purpose of this workshop was to orientate the future journalists on gender related issues and tell them how to tackle these issues to remove certain cultural and religious misperceptions regarding the status of women, their role and their rights.
They said the goal of national development could not be achieved without eliminating the gender discrimination and added that the women folk should be given their rights for the social development. They further said the media could contribute enough for promoting the trend of gender equality and the journalists should be clear about the gender related issues.
They highlighted the individual and collective responsibilities in promoting awareness regarding women rights and said the media could act as a watchdog in this regard.
COUPLE ARRESTED FOR OBSCENITY: Khurarrianwala police raided a house in Chak No 229 RB Makuana village and arrested a prostitute and her client red handed. Reportedly, Inspector Zafar Iqbal was informed that the accused Babar had been running an under cover brothel in his house.
The inspector raided the house and found the prostitute Sadaf, a resident of Sheikhupura, serving her client Suleman in a room. Both of them were arrested while the accused Babar escaped from the scene.
