Nawaz warns against delay in Osama probe

PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif has said that the federal government should avoid inordinate delays in establishing an independent commission to probe into the Abbottabad operation, calling the demand the voice of the whole nation.
Addressing a divisional workers’ convention at Pillar House, Nawaz said the establishment of an independent commission had become vital after the Osama bin Laden incident. Late on Thursday night, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Nisar Ali Khan also wrote a letter to the prime minister seeking an early constitution of the proposed independent commission.
A source in the PML-N told Pakistan Today that before leaving for China, the prime minister had taken coalition partners and the opposition leader into confidence that the proposed commission would be constituted upon his return from China. The source said that in his letter, Nisar had proposed a few names, including those of Justice (r) Shafiur Rahman, Justice (r) Nasir Aslam Zahid, Justice (r) Fakhuruddin G Ebrahim and Supreme Court Bar Association President Asma Jahangir, for induction as members of the proposed commission.
Meanwhile, Nawaz told his party workers that the country would have to break the beggar’s bowl and should promote foreign trade instead of depending on loans and aids. He said Pakistan was rapidly becoming isolated in the world community due to the failed foreign policies of the government. The PML-N chief said the country was heading towards doom and no one, including the army or the elite, were more important than the state. “Before anyone else suspends our aid, we should decide not to take anymore of it,” Nawaz said, adding that the objective of creating Pakistan was not to trade its sovereignty and honor.
He said uncontrolled drone attacks in the Tribal Areas were an open challenge for the government, as they had not been halted despite the passage of a unanimous resolution by parliament.
