Qaim invites Korean investors to Sindh

The Sindh province possesses many natural resources, including vast coal reserves in Thar, which are being utilised for development and progress, and the Korean investors are welcome to invest in Sindh, which is heart of the country’s economy, said Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah.
He said this while addressing the first overseas ‘Sindh Investment Seminar’, organised by the Sindh Board of Investment (BoI) in collaboration with Pakistan Embassy in Seoul and the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), in Seoul, Korea.
According to an official handout issued on Wednesday, the chief minister said that the people of Pakistan were looking forward to learn from Korean experts and invited Korean investors to come forward and invest in Sindh.
Speaking on the occasion, Adviser to Chief Minister on Investment Zubair Motiwala highlighted that foreign firms operating in Pakistan have never reported losses and the country continues to remain a destination of choice among foreign investors despite its deteriorating law and order situation.
In his presentation, Investment Secretary Muhammad Younis Dagha highlighted the wind energy sector, mass transit project and infrastructure development of Karachi Education City and Marble City, which are being pursued by the Sindh BoI.
Coal Secretary Aijaz Ali Khan gave a detailed presentation to the Korean businessmen and invited them to join hands with the Sindh government in the development of Thar coal reserves, which can rid the country of its economic woes and energy crises.
Considering Korean expertise in aquaculture and processing, Livestock and Fisheries Secretary Laiq Ahmed Memon presented some investment opportunities being offered by the Sindh government for technology transfer and investment in the fisheries and livestock sectors.
Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Unit Director General Sohail Rajput briefed the audience on various projects being offered under the PPP mode of investment. Besides, Engro Vopak invited Korean investment in setting up a liquid natural gas (LNG) terminal at Port Qasim.
In order to boost investors’ confidence, the success story of Hyderabad-Mirpurkhas Dual Carriageway – constructed by Doakjee Construction – was highlighted on the occasion.
The Sindh Investment Seminar was attended by a high-level delegation led by Sindh Chief Minister, Ambassador of Korea in Pakistan Choongjo Choi and Adviser to Chief Minister on Investment among other officers of the provincial government. The delegation also included 22 leading businessmen and other representatives from Engro, Al-Tawairqi, etc.
A large number of Korean businessmen attended the seminar and took keen interest in investment opportunities available in Sindh.
Later, the chief minister also held a detailed meeting with KCCI President Sohn Kyung- Shik and discussed the prospects for Korean investment in Pakistan especially the Sindh province.
