PTCL, TNT employees to get delayed 20pc increase in pensions

The National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology was assured Wednesday that the issue of increase in pensions of the retired employees of PTCL and the TNT would be resolved within 30 days. The Standing Committee on Information Technology was held with Bergees Tahir MNA in the chair to discuss the issues of pertaining to the pensions and development projects of the National Telecom (NTC).
It is pertinent to mention that the 20 percent increase in pensions announced in 2009-10 by the government had still not been given to the retired employees of the PTCL and the TNT. PTCL, approving a new rule under the law ministry’s auspice, had refused to increase the pensions by 20 percent. In its pervious meeting, the committee had directed the law ministry to not to pass laws against the PTCL Act and to resolve the issue within 30 days.
The committee chairman also expressed his displeasure over the NTC’s incomplete Coastal Optic Fibre project which had been initiated in 2002.
