People won’t accept LHC verdict on Zardari’s dual office: PPP

The local PPP leaders have contended that retaining two posts by the president of Pakistan is not unlawful, terming the verdict of the Lahore High Court against the constitution. Addressing a press conference at the press club, PPP Hafizabad President Malik Fayyaz Ahmad Awan, General Secretary Muhammad Arshad Mehdi, Akhtar Butt, Rai Asif Nawaz, Hafiz Abdur Rehman Jarral, Zulfikar Chand Bhoon and Zahid Farooq said the people of the Punjab would not accept this verdict.
They said the verdict of the Lahore High Court was tantamount to an amendment to the constitution whereas amending the law of the land was the job of the parliament. They said President Asif Zardari was democratically elected by all the provincial assemblies, the National Assembly and the Senate. Reposing full confidence in the leadership of Zardari, they said the verdict of the Lahore High Court against Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had been rejected by the world.
HOUSE LOOTED: At least four dacoits, including a woman, looted eight tolas gold ornaments and Rs 60,000 in broad daylight on Monday from a house in Madina Colony. According to details, Saima wife of Zulfikar has set up a beauty parlour in her house. On Monday noon a woman entered the house as a customer who was followed three dacoits. The outlaws took the family members hostage, took away eight tolas gold ornaments, mobile phones and Rs 60,000 and fled.
TWO COMMIT SUICIDE: Two people committed suicide by taking poisonous pills over domestic issues. In the first incident, Shakeel Ahmad, who was a Central Jail Gujranwala employee, took poisonous pills after quarrelling with his wife. He was rushed to hospital in critical condition, but he could not survive. In the second incident, Qazi Asif, a resident of Mohallah Sharifpura, ended his life by taking poison.
TWO ACQUITTED OF MURDER: Additional District and Sessions Judge Rana Muhammad Qayyum acquitted two accused, including a woman, in a murder case. According the prosecution, Farzana killed her husband, Nadeem Chishti, with the help of Zulfiqar one year ago. The court acquitted both the accused, giving them the benefit of the doubt.
‘VETERINARY DISPENSARIES GETTING MEDICINES REGULARLY’: District Livestock Officer Dr Munir Ahmad has said the district government is providing maximum funds to ensure supply of medicines and other facilities to the veterinary dispensaries across the district for increasing meat and milk production. Addressing a ceremony at the district complex, he said the Punjab government was spending huge funds to set up veterinary dispensaries at union council level.
