Load shedding worsened on Wednesday, as the power shortfall once again started heading towards the 6,000 MW level. The electricity shortfall witnessed an increase of 3,851MW while generation capacity dropped by 1,529MW owing to a shortage of oil supply to power plants and a sharp increase in electricity demand during the last four days. There were reports of 12 to 14 hours of load shedding in the provincial metropolis.
Township, Green Town, Allama Iqbal Town, the Walled City, Saddar and Mughalpura were worst hit by long hours of load shedding. Township resident Asif Bashir said that load shedding had paralysed routine life. He pointed out that for the last couple of days three hours of load shedding thrice a day had become a routine while unscheduled load shedding and tripping made the situation even worse.

He underlined that it had really become virtually impossible to run electronics business nowadays. Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) data reveals that electricity demand registered an increase of 2,322 MW, 14.78 percent, during the last four days owing to extreme hot weather. Figures indicate that electricity shortfall reached 5,791MW while energy sector experts believe that the shortfall would touch 7,000MW during the coming week.
Figures indicate that owing to extreme weather conditions, electricity shortfall witnessed an increase of 198 percent. A senior PEPCO official said that there were some oil supply constraints, which forced thermal power generation to drop by 282MW and IPPs by 950 MW.
